Having done what I felt was an accurate anime version I wanted to try to realistic version of Rosette. I felt that Daisuke Moriyama was probably looking at real world items from the 1900’s to late 1920’s so I started to doing research as to what was available during that time. I wanted to use real world items to create the costume, the biggest example of this is with the pouches.

I started with picking more muted colors for the fabrics as well and took them to Idleambition to work her magic.
- I did a paper mock up of the corset which was boned and included functioning clasps in the front, and also clasps up the back rather than zipper.
- All the pouches are purchased from army surplus since they never had a floating pouch (how in the anime the pouches are clipped to the corset) in the military. I also had to have the holster on this version of the costume.
- Purchased a more realistic blonde wig.
- I also did a paper mock up of all the metal pieces (shoulders, boots, gloves) so that I could make sure my shapes were right on the computer first before I sculpted them. Cast with brass composite the boot plates were Silver-leafed
- The watch is the only piece from the previous version I kept. At one point it actually use to tick and the hands would move. It was made from an alarm clock that was gutted.
- The gloves are again from the garden department but I found smaller ones!
- My gun this time is an altered Airsoft gun, to get as close to the original as possible. My idea is that the Cross section at the bottom of the gun is a laser sight to see where you are shooting( yes I know that laser were not around in the 20’s, but you tell me what that thing is doing on the bottom of the gun) .

I have yet to wear this to a convention. The difficulty with trying to make anime costumes more realistic is it tends to be less well received than doing it to comic costume. Some Anime fans are ‘very’ particular and want cosplayers to follow the design exactly, so if the artist draws a black line and in real life that would be a zipper, people still want it just to be a black line. I totally love this costume though and look forward to wearing it out. It is more of a fall costume! |
