I liked the character and thought I had done a decent job on The Huntress. I had got a lot of good press, but I felt it did look a little silly. Then bam Batman Begins came out that made me rethink the whole costume.

I wanted a somewhat realistic version of the huntress. The idea is Helena is kind of like a low rent Batman. She doesn’t have the money of Wayne Tech, so she would have to pick up a lot of her armored pieces at sporting goods stores. Also went with more muted purples, and a brownish grey trim rather than white, can’t hide in the dark wearing white. At the time I thought I would keep the open stomach cause it’s sexy, plus it now forces me to go to the gym. My love of food lost out to my love of cosplay.

-The mask was sculpted onto a cast we had done of my face, then we cast that in resin. Eventually we would like to vacuum form it needs to be lighter.

- The bodysuit is made of 4 way leatherette. It is not as stretchy as I had hoped. For the trim it’s actually the backing of this ugly gold fabric I found. I have no qualms about using the backside of fabric if I need too. The padding on the side was inspired by the daredevil jacket, to mimic the direction the rib cage goes. I had the sewing done by Quatumflux, but I designed all the lines of the outfit and pick the fabric.

-The cape is this matte latex spandex. An acquaintance had only a tiny bit left. I fell in love with it and only wish I could find more. It was a total fluke.

- The clasps are sculpted and cast.

- The belt base was a kid’s batman begins belt. We fabricated the additional belt pieces that go to the staff holsters.

-The staff holsters were sculpted and braced to a piece of leather which was shaped to my thigh. The staff comes apart in 4 pieces to fit into the holster.

-The arm guards are kids shin pads which we marred and scratched up, also a panel was added to the under part of the gloves with some ‘decorative’ stitching to make sure the shin guard didn’t flop around on my arm.

- The gloves are women motor cross gloves which we also painted.

- The shin guards are just kids goalie guards, which we again scratched up to make it look like ‘battle’ damage.

- The staff was made out of electrical conduit, air compressor fittings, and cast flashlight for the handles. They can be taken apart into 4 pieces or put together to create the full staff.

-I did pick boots with a platform only because I needed any height I could get.

I find either people really dig this costume or they don’t get it and like the spandex version. Either way it was a fun experience. While a lot of the pieces were bought it was hard to find things like the armored women’s motor cross gloves. I have debated in the last year adding a panel on the stomach area since I never understood the exposed stomach in a fight.
