Since first reading empowered I knew I wanted to costume as her. I felt like I could relate to the character; we both have big hips/asses. I thought it was the perfect costume for a lyrca type material. Normally I prefer not to use lycra because I wanted to create a ‘real’ looking costume, not something that just stepped off the page. |

While it is a basic bodysuit, I designed it with princess and under bust seams; I find these seams are the most flattering on my body. I did a heel hole at the bottom and picked up shoes that had an open toe to try to mirror her barefoot look but still having a heel. I picked a medium gauge spandex and took it to Sean to tailor it.
The Mask is pre-sewn then fabric glued onto a slightly altered domino mask. I went through a lot of debate with adding lens, but felt in the end because the costume is simple that if I also took away eye contact I would look like a Kigurumi. I zipped up the back of the head just to make it easier to get on and off. Once all was said and done we sprayed the costume with the sparkles which you completely can't see in any of the photos!

Very few people knew who I was, but that didn’t stop me from having a great time. Sadly the week the costume was done I was at the local fabric store and found an even better fabric that was more like a stretch PVC than a Lycra which I would have MUCH preferred to use. It just has more of the look I’m going for and not to mention that Long Wigs and Spandex do NOT play well together. I hope someday get a Ninjette to accompany me with the redone costume in the new fabric.
Someone gave Adam Warren (creator of Empowered) a heads up on my costume and he ended up using some of my ideas as a joke in Vol 5, when Empowered has to cosplay as herself. One of his comments being “I never saw it in spandex more of a latex type thing”. GRRRR!
